Privacy Policy
Nest Egg (“we,” “us”) is a personal finance companion app operated in connection with mynestegg.org. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. Nest Egg does not sell your personal data and does not show ads.
1. Information we collect
- Account. Email address (and name you choose) when you sign in via magic link or other auth we offer.
- Profile & app data. Goals, nests, avatar choices, chat messages with Birdy, and settings you create in the app.
- Linked financial accounts (optional). If you connect a bank or brokerage through Plaid, we receive read-oriented account and transaction data Plaid provides (balances, account types, merchants, categories, income/spend signals). We never see or store your bank password — that stays with Plaid and your institution.
- Device & usage. Basic technical info needed to run the service (e.g. app version, crash/error signals if enabled).
- AI chat. Messages you send to Birdy may be processed by our AI provider (currently Anthropic) to generate replies. We may keep short memory notes you agree to store for continuity.
2. How we use information
- To provide Nest Egg: show balances, nests, pay-period leftovers, projections, and Birdy companionship.
- To sync and refresh linked accounts when you connect or sync.
- To send transactional email (sign-in links, essential account messages).
- To improve reliability and fix bugs.
We do not use your data to sell ads, train public models for unrelated products, or share it for marketing list rental.
3. Financial & investment content
Nest Egg may show educational content (including “VT + Chill” / Uncle VT). That content is not personalized investment, tax, or legal advice. Talk to a licensed professional before making investment decisions.
4. Service providers
We use trusted processors to run the app, including:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and backend functions.
- Plaid — bank linking (subject to Plaid’s privacy policy).
- Resend (or similar) — transactional email.
- Anthropic — Birdy chat responses.
- Apple — if you download via the App Store / TestFlight (subject to Apple’s terms).
They process data only as needed to provide their services to us.
5. Retention
We keep account and app data while your account is active. Linked financial data is refreshed while connections remain authorized. You may request deletion (below). Backups may persist for a limited period after deletion.
6. Your choices & deletion
- You can skip bank linking and still use parts of the app with self-reported info.
- You can disconnect institutions via the app / Plaid flows where available.
- To delete your Nest Egg account and associated app data, email [email protected] from your account email with subject “Delete my account.” We will delete or anonymize personal data we control within a reasonable time, except where we must retain records for legal reasons.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (encrypted transport, access-controlled cloud services). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Children
Nest Egg is not directed to children under 13 (or the age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect their data.
9. International users
Servers may be located in the United States. If you use Nest Egg from elsewhere, you consent to processing in the U.S. (and other locations where our providers operate).
10. Changes
We may update this policy. We will change the effective date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the app or by email when appropriate.
